THROWBACK: SaeWhat? Supports Bay Area Mien Musicians

SaeWhat? Clothing officially opened for business in the Bay Area in 2005. It was a very expressive time for Iu-Mien music. Traditional Iu-Mien music was as popular during Lunar New Year celebrations and many younger musicians began to experiment with many American styles of music.

One of those musicians was Iu-Mien R&B pioneer Kuay Saelee.

Kuay Salee was like no other: he completely carved out his own unique R&B style in the Iu-Mien community while others his age leaned more toward American Hip Hop. Kuay was also unique in that he commercially released a full studio album "I'm So Ready" in 2005.

During 2006, the SaeWhat? Clothing street team had a chance to meet Kuay Saelee and spoke with him on many occasions. He became an inspiration to provide younger Iu-Mien people and musicians with street wear that was more reflective of their style.

The end result was a collaboration with Kuay Saelee by providing him and his team with SaeWhat? Clothing street wear.

This collaboration became one of many in an effort to connect with "Mien Music".

As we remember the many accomplishments of Kuay Saelee, we look forward to continuing the development of our previous project: Mien Music.
